OPEN THE GATE SOUND – Fenomeno Show & Samurai [360º Roots Reggae Dancehall + Dubplate & Remixes]

GENRE: 360º Roots Reggae Dancehall + Dubplate & Remixes

Open The Gate Sound is possibly the only London sound who brings you Reggae vibes in all its beautiful shades!
Dub, Roots, New Roots, Ska, Lovers Rock, Dancehall, Dubplates and even Remixes with flavours of Hip-Hop, Drum&Bass or Dubstep, Fenomeno Show & Samurai spin them all, strictly from vinyl selections skilfully aligned and equalized, accompanied by ever funny, clever and dynamic MCing.

One of the particularity of that Sound crew: Fenomeno Show (the DJ) and Samurai (the MC) are a perfect combination as the MC can also drop heavy selections on the desks while the DJ can hold the microphone as well. They are in fact two “One-man-show” rolled into one!

In 2008, Fenomeno Show joined the Amsterdam-based Esta Selecta’s ZionHighness Radio where he played on air amongst many great DJs from all around the World. There ‘Sam U Roy the Samurai’ was one of the veterans. The mutual admiration, the relevant proximity (both living in London) and the genuine immediate friendship brought them to unify their radio slots and skills, and start a brand new, unique, radio show together: “Babylondon O’clock“.

Immediately the distinctive trademark was embraced: offering a variety of genres, exchangeable roles, double microphone interaction with incredible natural & often comical co-ordination!

They were broadcasting from the basement of ‘Open the Gate Cultural Centre’ and welcoming every week always different established Reggae singers from the UK and European scene such: Dawn Penn, Gappy Ranks, Nereus Joseph, to name just a few.

Soon after, Fenomeno Show & Samurai officially form ‘Open the Gate Sound’ and carve out a niche for themselves by sticking to the ‘Babylondon O’clock‘ format when touring.

After gigs in the UK (Hootananny in Brixton London, Passing Clouds & Oro Bar in East London, Silver Bullet in North London, Rikitiki in Brighton) and in Festival abroad (‘LandJuweel’ and ‘BalloonFest’, NL) they’ve been considerably increasing their bookings in London, UK and Europe, and are now also residents in Ruigoord, Amsterdam, NL where they run their own night every 3 months.

There they bring the main act and have been featuring on their set a variety of guests MCs and singers from UK and mainland Europe, such as Brother Culture (UK), Afrikan Simba (UK/Nigeria), Earl 16 (UK/Jamaica), Clapper Priest (UK), MC Baco (Italy), Manlio (Italy), Deadly Hunter (UK), G Ras (Hungary), Leah Rosier & Myriel (NL) and many more alongside Dutch live Reggae.

Besides, they keep on moving crowds in London and have notably the ability to pace the night, entertain audience and play very unique sets in intervals between Live Music acts – for instance in the regular Open The Gate nights at Passing Clouds where they have been opening for Live bands like Dennis Bovell Band, Black Slate and the Afrobeat Legend Bukky Leo to name a few.
