Since 2010, Open The Gate is hosting its unique fair, The African Market, featuring a selection of the most talented designers from Africa and inspired by African cultures.


The African Market showcases original & ethical fashion, accessories, jewellery, shoes as well as Arts & Crafts, homeware, natural health & beauty products, books, music, arts and more. Local & international charities are also represented, promoting their actions and raising awareness but also funds by selling goods.

And in addition Facepainting, Glitter Tattoos, Drumming Circle, Storytelling and other FREE kids & family activities!

And to complete the atmosphere, delicious African street food from various countries!
More than an exhibition and trade space, The African Market is a place of curiosity attracting an eclectic mix of people including families, young people, students & adults, and a networking platform both for traders and interested visitors, connecting amateurs, professionals and passionates.


The African Market runs on a regular basis, in various indoor and outdoor locations (RichMix in Shoreditch London E1, Gillett Square in London Hackney) and has been part of Festivals : the Back2Black Festival (London, 2012), Film Africa Festival (London, 2012, 2013 and 2014) and  Kaya Festival (North Wales, 2013). It has been also hosted at  The Africa Centre in Covent Garden London in 2012.

Since June 2013 The African Market is resident at Old Spitafield Market London, every 4th Saturday of the month!
