1st Donation ceremony, 6th Feb 2013 in Brufut
The Pen And Paper Campaign in Gambia has been fully set in January 2013.
In less than a month, we have collected enough donations in hotels and restaurants to host the 1st Donation Ceremony of the Campaign in one of the schools of the network.
The 1st Donation Ceremony happened on Wednesday 6th February 2013 at the Brufut Education Centre Nursery school, in Kombo, gathering the Director of the school Mustafa Ndure, the headteacher Mr. Ebrima Djanjo, the teachers as well as the 96 pupils of the school. Parents and elders also attended the ceremony, as well as our guests Mr. Adama Bah on behalf of our partner The Travel Foundation, Ms. Sukai Jallow, representative of Friends of The Gambia Association and Mr. Oko Drammeh, music producer and media icon.
Each child has received 1 exercise book and 1 pencil and the school was donated other stationary items, such as chalks, rulers, cissors, felt pens, marker pens, paper and books to support the teaching.
A musical performance by Kora player Sura Susso and by talented local percussion rounded off the event in a very festive and joyful atmosphere.
The event was very successful and very promising for the next ones.
Thank you all donors for the school material you have gathered and dropped off both in London and in Gambia in the last 2 months. Tell a friend to tell a friend…. Don’t Travel Empty, Donate Stationery!
